The Antidote: Prioritizing Wellness in Education
A Talk by Margo LaPointe
About this talk
In a country that stopped turning due to fear and illness, creating an education model focusing on wellness is the antidote.
Today’s children are inheriting an unprecedented future. As AI sweeps the market, replacing jobs and the pre-Covid life we once knew, our students will be inheriting a new economic industry which will require skills from them they will need as tools to build their lives.
Jack Ma, Andy McAfee, Erik Brynjolffson, Ted Dintersmith, Sir Ken Robinson all have led the messaging that the job market was rapidly changing, and therefore so too America’s learning models required evolution to prepare these students.
Two years ago, I founded a microschool primarily based on prioritizing wellness as a means to fuel success. What happened when the vehicles we used to deliver this included whole child education, project based learning, mixed age classrooms, and even sheep on a farm?
60% of my students excelled academically, completing their grade level within six months. Meaning in February they had completed their grade level, seamlessly advancing the next day. The jaw dropper? 100% of this subset had been previously diagnosed as requiring an IEP in traditional schools.
