About this talk
During this session, attendees will learn what trauma is and how it may present in education. The global pandemic may have brought past traumas to the surface while igniting new ones. Children have been with caregivers for months, and will undoubtedly feel some separation anxiety in the coming months with school starting. For families choosing to remain virtual, students may resist the homeschool environment and negative behaviors may arise. Educational and global traumas cause intense reactions in children and their families. The goal of this session will be to provide actionable strategies to support educators and families though this unprecedented time. Integration of social emotional skills, a trauma-informed hierarchy, and practical environmental supports will guide attendees in creating trauma supportive educational environments regardless of location.
