A Talk by The Homeschool Conference
About this talk
We all enjoy stories about self-made millionaires, daring explorers, bold innovators and creative geniuses. Why? Because these accomplishments cannot be given - they are earned over time with lots of hard work and dedication. Not surprisingly, many of these people broke free of conventional education to pursue their own learning. What did they have in common? Jamie McMillin will use stories from the childhoods of greats such as Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Agatha Christie, Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir to explain how self-directed learning works, and how to cultivate the roots of determination and habits of success in our own children.
Jamie McMillin, mom with 15 plus years of homeschooling experience, is the author of "Legendary Learning: The Famous Homeschoolers' Guide to Self-Directed Excellence" and the co-creator of OLLY (The Organized Life and Learning Yearbook), a Mac/iOS based planning and record-keeping app for homeschooling families and other micro schools.
