About this talk
This session introduces the SUNY Exploring Emerging Technologies for Lifelong Learning and Success (#EmTechMOOC) ( http://suny.edu/emtech ), an open-access resource targeted to the lifelong learning needs of faculty, staff, students, and anyone from across the globe who has an interest to keep pace with the continually evolving technological landscape.
This Coursera-based MOOC provides a structure—plus community support—for ongoing exploration of emerging technology. A secondary component of the course is EmTechWIKI, a socially-curated discovery engine to explore technology tools, tutorials, and resources. The WIKI can be used as a stand-alone resource, or it can be used together with #EmTechMOOC.
The main concept of this learning opportunity is to instill strategies to develop lifelong learning habits to stay current with emerging technologies. Those who enroll in the MOOC participate in hands-on activities to explore a variety of digital tools, including blogs and wikis, collaborative space, audio-video, presentations, open educational resources, social media, simulations, mobile applications, and more. Participants are involved in discovery-based learning and explore #EmTechMOOC at the pace that works best for them. Through the MOOC, participants develop a personal ePortfolio to showcase their skills and accomplishments. #EmTechMOOC is accessible by students, and everyone around the globe, who is interested to keep pace with technology change for personal and professional growth.
This freely-available online learning opportunity is sponsored through the University at Buffalo Libraries, Binghamton University, and the State University of New York (SUNY).
